Species: Phlebopus portentosus
Common name: Black Bolete
Culture type: Agar plate culture
Use: Microscopy, culture expansion, and research
Phlebopus portentosus, commonly known as the Black Bolete, is a tropical bolete and one of the few bolete species known to grow in cultivation. While most boletes form mycorrhizal relationships with trees, this species has demonstrated the ability to grow independently under controlled conditions.
As a tropical species, Phlebopus portentosus prefers warm to hot temperatures for growth.
We do not provide cultivation instructions for this species. The agar formula used to produce this culture is proprietary. Purchasers should already be knowledgeable about this species and be willing to experiment in order to achieve their desired results.
This is a naturally slow growing species: if environmental conditions or nutrients are not appropriate, growth may slow significantly or stall.
Each plate contains living mycelium prepared under sterile laboratory conditions. Cultures may arrive in a slowed or dormant state and may require transfer to fresh agar media.
Cultures are prepared under sterile laboratory conditions, however sterility after transfer cannot be guaranteed due to variables outside of our control.
For microscopy and research purposes only. Please read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing. The resale or distribution of this culture, or any material derived from it including cultures, spores, or mushrooms produced from this culture, is strictly prohibited. All sales are final.
