The mushroom that glows as it grows! Panellus stipticus, commonly known as bitter oyster, astringent panus, luminescent panellus, or stiptic fungus, is a species of fungus that produces bioluminescent mushrooms. The luminescence is produced in both the mycelium and the fruiting body. Panellus stipticus might be useful in bioremediation, because of its ability to detoxify various environmental pollutants.

The liquid mushroom culture can be used to inoculate grain spawn. The colonized mushroom spawn can then be transferred to a variety of deciduous wood, where it will continue to grow and glow.

The mycelium growing on agar, grain spawn, or substrate will begin to glow after a few weeks. The primordia and the mushrooms themselves will glow the brightest.

To produce mushrooms, make a small slice in the top corner of the colonized substrate bag and place it in a humidity chamber or mushroom grow tent.

Inoculated grain spawn can also be used to make mushroom plug spawn and to make glowing mushroom logs.
