Black Pearl King is a well known hybrid combining genetics from Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus eryngii, rather than simply being a dark form of true King Oyster. This distinction is useful when researching Black Pearl, Black Pearl King, and related King Oyster hybrids, as the name is sometimes incorrectly listed under Pleurotus eryngii alone. The cross is known for combining characteristics associated with both parent taxa, with darker coloration and the heavier stem structure associated with its King Oyster lineage. Black Pearl has also become a recognized commercial designation in mycological literature and research involving Pleurotus hybrids.
